“Flotacija” movie screening will take place on May 4, 2025, at 11:00, in Filmladen Kassel, Goethestraße 31, Kassel, Germany. The documentary is directed by Alesandra Tati and Eluned Zoë Aiano, and tells of various conflicts between nature/tradition and industry/modernity through the life of one family.
Screening will be followed by a discussion on May 5, 2025, at 18:00, focused on the “green transition” and resisting the extractive industries in Serbia and Bosnia. You can watch the trailer for the movie here.
This screening is part of a series of events in Kassel, Berlin and Frankfurt this May that aim to educate on the impoverished, depopulated, rural or deindustrialized communities in two Balkan countries, and form alliances to resist the EU-supported authoritarian extractivism and economic growth. Destruction of the environment is also on the rise, with forests being chopped down, land appropriated, and water poisoned. The EU’s green‘ growth and mainstay industries, such as automotive, meanwhile, remain dependent on resources such as lithium.
These vents are organised and supported by ZBOR (Združeni Balkanski Otpor (Collective Balkan Resistance and Labour)), Doctoral Programme JUST of the Kassel Institute for Sustainability, the University of Kassel, Global Partnership Network (GPN), and Global Labor University (GLU).
